CD Duplication in Chicago Information Resource - Home
CD Duplication in Chicago has become increasingly consumer friendly in the last few years - mainly due to the excellent services provided by our own local area businesses.
While you are shopping around for the best company to reproduce your Compact Discs... you will probably be faced with the question:
CD Replication or Duplication? Which method is better suited for my needs?"
Many argue that there are no real differences between the duplication process and the replication process. Visually, most CD-Rs have a blue or green recording surface and all Compact Discs have a silver recorded surface.
Many clients, in an attempt to mimic the replicated look, have requested the use of CD-Rs with a silver recording surface for their duplicated jobs.
If you can have your media replicated, our advice is: do it. Replicated Compact Discs not only look better but they have increased longevity when compared to CD-Rs. Also, the signal from replicated Compact Discs is stronger - hence providing better audio and compatibility with players.
The main factors which determine which method to select are:
quantity of Compact Discs required
the number of titles
turnaround time required
print quality required and
your budget.
If you need 1000 or more Compact Discs produced, replication is the better option. The CDs will have the best quality offset print and be shop quality.
If your 1000 Compact Disc total comprises of 10 titles of 100 each, then duplication will be necessary. Creating glass masters and the setup and use of the replication equipment is expensive. Therefore, only in large quantities will the costs be absorbed and lower the per unit price.
What happens if you need 1000 count in three days time? Your better option will be duplication. Replication times are usually a minimum of five working days. If you need any project done in shorter timescales, only duplication can be realistically accommodated.
CD Printing Options
There are several CD printing options available for small and larger projects. The standard print for a duplicated job would be an inkjet print or a silkscreen print.
There are advantages and disadvantages of both print qualities. The standard print for a replicated job is an offset print which is the best quality print available.
Of course budget is a defining factor in any purchase. Printing and duplicating 1000 CDs is more expensive than printing and replicating the same number.
From quantities of 500 and above, the prices are about the same, but below 500, duplicating is the cheaper option. If money isn't an issue, turnaround may be the deciding factor for runs below 500.
If you need to produce more than 200 DVDs, we always recommmend that you consider replication instead of duplication. DVD-R media is still not compatible with all DVD players and across all operating systems, so consider compliance with all DVD projects
